Instructions

  1. Faux Mohawk

    • 1

Dampen your hair. Place a large amount of styling gel in the palm of your hand. Rub your hands together then add the gel to your hair. Run your fingers through your hair to evenly distribute the gel. Repeat until your hair is coated with gel.

    • 2

Bend forward, turning your head upside down allowing your hair to fall forward. Brush hair toward the crown of your head. At the same time aim your hair dryer (on a medium to high setting) the same direction as you are brushing. Continue to move the brush and hair dryer all around your head until your hair is dry.

    • 3

For long hair, gather the hair at the top of your head into three or four small ponytails, making a straight row down the middle of your head from the crown toward the neck. Leave a layer of hair out at the hairline and along the sides so that you can smooth that hair over the top of the ponytails to hide them.

    • 4

Using a comb, tease the base of the mohawk area of your hair to give it the body to stand upright.

    • 5

Before lifting your head, add more styling gel to both sides of your hair, pushing the hair together into a mohawk shape. Spray liberally with hair spray.

    • 6

Continue to bend forward until your hair dries and is stiff enough to maintain the mohawk shape. Place bobby pins along the sides of your head at the base of the mohawk.

    • 7

If necessary, lay on your side with a towel or piece of cardboard under your hair. Spray your hair with more hair spray and lay still until it dries.

    Colored Hair

    • 8

Style your hair as desired. Drape an old towel or shirt over your shoulders to protect your clothing.

    • 9
Hold the colored hair spray can 8 to 10 inches away from hair to help create an even look.

Hold the can of colored hair spray at 8 to 10 inches away from your hair aiming toward the area you wish to color. Press the nozzle continuously for approximately 5 seconds and move the hair spray across your hair.

    • 10

Make a pattern by spraying only some sections of your hair. To fully color your hair, continue to spray all sections of hair. Lean forward and spray the underneath layer of hair.

    Wild Braids

    • 11

Slightly dampen hair and comb through it to remove any tangles. Place a large amount of styling gel in the palm of your hand. Rub hands together then add the gel to your hair. Run your fingers through your hair to evenly distribute the gel.

    • 12

Divide hair into large sections all around your head, securing each with a hair band.

    • 13

Unfasten one section of hair. Divide this section of hair into several smaller sections. Secure each into a small pony tail with a hair band. Make the hair in each small pony tail point in slightly different directly pointing out from your scalp.

    • 14

Divide one small section of hair into three pieces. Overlap the right outer piece of hair over the middle piece. Then overlap the left outer piece of hair over the middle piece. Hold hair firmly.

    • 15
Use small elastic hair bands to secure braids.
Use small elastic hair bands to secure braids.

Repeat overlapping hair until you get to the end and have formed a tight braid. Pinch the braid tightly between two fingers. Secure the end of the braid with a hair band. Continue to form small braids all over your head.

Tips & Warnings

  • A faux mohawk works best on medium length hair; if hair is too long it will be more difficult to maintain the style.
