Use a Power Search to Find Mile Per Gallon Statistics

1
The U.S. government offers mpg and fuel economy information to the public. Go to the FuelEconomy website, which is the "official U.S. government source of fuel economy information." Under the section entitled Find and Compare Cars (on the left-hand side of the Web page), you will see a link for Power Search. Click on the link to access the Power Search page.

2
Search for the mpg on specific vehicle ranges such as model, year or fuel type. Click the Model Year link once on the Power Search page. Enter the range of model years you are searching for. The search range is 1984 to next year's models. Next, click on the Miles Per Gallon link at the bottom of the list. You can choose between city, highway or combined miles per gallon (mpg). Enter the range you are looking for (or you can leave this empty and the models in the year ranges chosen with all mpg levels will appear). Hit Search. This will bring up a list of cars which fit the description of the model year and mpg you requested. Refine your search by adding perimeters such as car model, fuel type, transmission and cylinders for your mpg search. On the page where you first entered the model year, add additional search criteria for your mpg search.

Learn about the carbon footprint of different car models. Select one of the models of vehicles on the list that met your criteria, and more detailed mpg and fuel usage information will be displayed. The "Estimated New EPA MPG" of the vehicle will be displayed, in terms of highway, city and combined driving, as well as calculated annual fuel costs and costs of fuel to drive 25 miles. Carbon footprint scores are displayed, along with other factors in the EPA Air Pollution Score roster including things such as passenger load, cylinders and type of drive transmission. The description identifies the model in yes or no terms under the line "gas guzzler." The description pages also answer basic questions about mpg calculation formulas, carbon footprints and the greenhouse effect.
