How to Recycle Solid Waste Materials

Recycling programs preserve the environment for future generations.

Recycling of solid waste reduces the amount of garbage that ends up in landfill sites. Recycling also saves energy and prevents pollution from the production of new products. It is important to have scheduled time set aside for processing solid waste into recyclables and non-recyclables. Natural resources such as wood can be preserved over time with the implementation of an effective recycling program. Set up communication campaigns that create awareness about recycling.

Instructions

1. Sort through all of the solid waste materials.

2. Go to the Environmental Protection Agency website. Click on "Waste" under "Popular Topics." Click on "Resource Conservation" and then "Reduce, Reuse, Recycle". Click on "Industrial Materials Recycling" on the left of the page for information on how to recycle specific types of industrial materials.

3. Place recyclables into a separate container that can be placed on the curb-side or taken to a local drop-off center. Locate local drop-off centers by calling your town office.

4. Manufacture products using recycled materials if you are a product manufacturer.

5. Purchase recycled products to close the loop.
