How to Donate Cars to the National Kidney Foundation

The National Kidney Foundation has been accepting car donations via its Kidney Cars program since 1983, with more than 100 cars received every day as of October 2010. If you have a car that you want to donate to the National Kidney Foundation, you can do it directly through their Kidney Cars program. Due to its tax exempt status, your car donation to the National Kidney Foundation is tax deductible.

Instructions

    • 1

Enter your zip code on the "Donate Now" page of the National Kidney Foundation website (see Resources). This will take you to the donation page for your area.

    • 2

Type in the details of your donation on the first page of the online form. You need the car's VIN, make, model, year and body type. You must also disclose if the car is missing any parts or is damaged in any way.

    • 3

Give your contact details on the second page of the online form. You can also select whether you prefer to drop off your car at a donation center or if you want it picked up by the National Kidney Foundation's towing service. Some vehicles can be picked up in as little as two days.

    • 4

Verify what you have entered on the final page of the form and submit it. You will be contacted within two business days about the car donation. If you want the vehicle picked up, a time and date will be set up.

    • 5

Sign your car title over to the National Kidney Foundation when you drop off the car or when it is picked up. If you do not have the car title, you must apply for a replacement title at your local Department of Motor Vehicles before you donate the car. The replacement title fee varies by state.
