How to Replace the Garmin Nuvi 1690 Battery
The Garmin Nuvi 1690 comes with a rechargeable lithium-ion battery and a vehicle power cable. The battery will recharge as you use it as long as it is connected to your car's power outlet. You can also charge the battery using the AC adapter or by plugging it into a computer via a USB port. The battery is designed to last for the lifetime of the GPS unit. If you have a problem with the battery, do not attempt to change it yourself. It must be sent to a Garmin or Raytech repair shop. If your Nuvi is not still under warranty, there is a flat-fee factory overhaul charge.

Tips & Warnings
Reduce the back light to save on battery power. If you are having problems with the accuracy of your battery gauge, allowing it to completely drain and then fully recharge may fix the issue.
Protect your battery by keeping it out of the direct sunlight when it is not in use.
Garmin GPS units bought through online auctions are not eligible for warranty service and Garmin will not replace any missing parts.
