Instructions

    • 1

Set your 8 1/2-by-11-inch piece of card stock on a flat, well-lit surface with the longer sides at the top and bottom. Card stock comes in a variety of colors and textures. Choose a piece of card stock that is relevant to the occasion for which the invitation is intended. For example, if you are throwing a Christmas party, colors such as green and red would be good choices.

Measure 3 1/2 inches from the left side of the card stock and create a vertical fold. Run the bone folder along the fold to reinforce the crease. Leave the fold in place. A bone folder is a flat-edged tool, usually white, that create smooth creases with a professional look. Hobby and craft stores usually sell bone folders. If you do not have one, the non-serrated edge of a butter knife will work.

    • 3

Measure 3 1/4 inches from the right edge and create a vertical fold. Run the bone folder over the crease. The right fold should now be over the left fold to create the trifold invitation.

    • 4

Decorate the outside of the card. Pictures, decorative stamps and ribbons are great mediums to use.

    • 5

Open the card and both flaps. On the underside of the first flap include any pertinent information regarding the occasion. This is a great place to add the when, where and why of the event. In the center of the card add additional decorative touches. Open the right flap, and use this section for RSVP info or a special quote.

Place the trifold card into an envelope and deliver.

Tips & Warnings

  • Some tri-fold invitations have a small flap that keeps the invitation together. To create the flap, measure 1 1/4 inch from the top of the card stock down both creases. Cut away 3 1/2 inches from the left side and 3 3/4 inches from the right. Fold the trifolds as before, then fold the the small flap down. Secure with a decorative sticker.
