How to Lay Out a Model Aircraft Field That Is Ready for Flying

Design an air field for your model plane.

Designing and building an airfield for your model aircraft helps bring your hobby to life while simultaneously providing real benefits for your plane. An airfield with clearly defined takeoff and landing strips will provide a much safer surface for your model plane to travel on during departures and arrivals. Try to find a large field that you will be able to access often. Start slowly by building just a single runway and gradually building more as needed.

• Water soluble paint

Instructions

1. Find a large field that suits model airplane flying well. Look for large clearings and areas with few trees or other tall obstacles.

2. Begin sketching out the layout your aircraft field. Design crisscrossing runways to provide takeoff and landing points from many different directions.

3. Put your lawnmower on the lowest setting and cut a straight path for a runway, positioned according to your design. Use the water soluble paint to mark off the edges of the runway.
