How to Troubleshoot the Xerox XC830 Copier

Normally the Xerox XC830 Copier produces black-and-white copies from original documents that are placed either directly on the scanning glass or loaded in the copier's document feeder. The copier may display an alert on its screen if there is a problem, but you may discover a problem with the machine's operation by noticing problems with the quality of the copies. To help determine the cause of a problem and take corrective action, troubleshoot any problems first.

Instructions

  1. Excessive Paper Jams

    • 1

Remove the paper from the copier's input tray and flip through it to make sure the papers are not stuck together. Flip the paper stack over and place it back in the input tray.

    • 2

Remove the paper in the input tray and replace it with paper from an unopened package. Adjust the paper guides in the input tray so that they touch the paper stack but do not bend any of the sheets.

    • 3

Check the paper's packaging to see if it has the recommended bond weight--20 lbs. If the installed paper's bond weight is either less or more, replace it with paper that has the recommended bond weight.

    • 4

Open the copier's covers and check for stuck paper, including small shreds that have torn off from pieces of paper that were stuck before. Remove these pieces of paper and close the covers.

    Smears or Spots on Copies

    • 5

Look at the original document to see if the defects come from it. If so, place the document back on the scanning glass and press the "Copy Contrast" button to lighten the copies.

    • 6

Clean the scanning glass and inside of the scanning lid with a damp microfiber cloth. Do not spray water directly on the copier. Dry the scanning glass and inside of the lid with a dry microfiber cloth.

    • 7

Press down on the release lever on the front of the copier, then lift up the cover to reveal the inside of the copier. Take the green cleaning piece from its slot on the right front portion of the inside of the copier.

    • 8

Wipe the corotron wire with the cleaning piece several times to make sure you clean it completely. Replace the cleaning piece in its slot, then fold down the copier's cover until the release lever snaps into place.
