1
Choose the type of sunflower style you prefer. Some sunflower items are created in a whimsical, more cartoon-like style, while others are rendered in a more botanically accurate fashion. Whichever style you choose, be sure to carry that style through your décor choices to keep the look coherent.
-
2
Choose complementary colors for your décor. Sunflowers coordinate well with most any color but work especially well with shades of blue, red and green. Consider painting the kitchen walls in the coordinating color to create a backdrop for highlighting your sunflower items. Choosing a color to coordinate with your sunflowers can also help you choose the right accessories.

Use sunflowers on the walls. Cover one wall with a sunflower print wallpaper to create a focal point or use a sunflower-printed border for a more subtle look. Many home improvement and craft stores carry stick-on cutouts in a sunflower theme that you can use to create a border or add interest to cabinet doors. Or you can stencil a sunflower motif on the walls.

Dress your kitchen windows with sunflowers. Choose curtains with a sunflower theme or purchase solid-colored curtains and add a strip of sunflower fabric to the bottom hem. You can also create custom curtain tiebacks with coordinating fabric or ribbon; consider hot-gluing a silk sunflower to the tiebacks to add texture and interest.

5
Purchase sunflower-themed accessories. Kitchen towels, throw rugs, paper towel and napkin holders and canisters are just some of the products that feature a sunflower theme. Carry the theme further with refrigerator magnets, drawer pulls, kitchen note pads or calendars that feature sunflowers.

6
Place containers of fresh sunflowers on your kitchen table or counters. There is no better way to decorate with sunflowers than to have the real thing brightening up the room.

Tips & Warnings
To keep the décor from looking too busy, look for items that express the sunflower theme through shape or color and not just an image of a sunflower. For example, consider a wrought-iron wall hanging in the shape of a sunflower or accessories with an embossed sunflower motif.
As with any theme, it can be tempting to go overboard with sunflowers in your kitchen décor. Remember that moderation is key and you can express the theme without every item featuring a sunflower. Be sure to have some plain but color-coordinated items in the kitchen to maintain a balanced look.
