How to Configure an Eight Port Switch
An eight-port switch does not require configuration in order to work properly. As long as you connect all of the cables correctly, the switch will work right out of the box. A switch creates a small local area network (LAN). Although the computers in the network can communicate with one another, they cannot communicate with devices outside the network or connect to the Internet. To address this shortcoming, you can use the uplink port on the switch to connect a router, which in turn can direct network traffic across the LAN and over the Internet.
Instructions

1
Connect an Ethernet cable from each computer to one of the eight ports on the back of the switch.
-
2
Connect an Ethernet cable from the uplink port on the back of the switch to the LAN port on the back of the router. If your switch does not have an identified uplink port, the right-most port will be the uplink port in most cases. Refer to your user manual for the specific location of the uplink port.

3
Turn on the switch to activate your LAN as well as provide Internet access to the computers on your network.
