How to Store Coffee in Mylar Bags
Keeping coffee fresh is a priority even for the casual coffee drinker. For the aficionado, it can mean the difference between truly enjoying a freshly ground and brewed cup and wanting to pour the whole cup down the drain. One of the most highly recommended methods of keeping coffee in top shape and preserving the flavors, aromas and oils of the beans, is to store it in Mylar bags. Starting with quality beans will ensure a good cup of coffee. Buy the freshest roasted beans. The proliferation of gourmet and specialty coffee shops means people in nearly any location can purchase fresh-roasted coffee beans. The fresher they are before you store them, the better the flavor when you ground and brew.

2
Pour the coffee beans into Mylar bags. You can find Mylar bags at USAemergencysupply.com. Use as many as you need for the number of beans you are storing.

3
Squeeze the air out of the bag. This step is crucial, as air is an enemy of freshness in coffee beans. So squeeze the bag as you roll it tightly.

4
Sometimes the simplest sealing solution, such as a rubber band, is best. Seal the bag using either the existing closure or a rubber band that will hold the bag securely shut. Use more than one rubber band if you like.
-
5
Place the bag in the fridge or freezer. If you plan to brew the beans within a week, storing them in the refrigerator should be fine. If not, clear space in the freezer for them.
