How to Load Motorcycles Onto a Tilt Trailer

Tilt trailers are usually small trailers designed to haul motorcycles and ATVs. Everyone who owns a motorcycle and a tilt trailer should know how to properly load the bike onto the trailer. If done incorrectly you will be running the risk of damaging the frame and body of the bike. Not much is needed to load the bike onto the trailer and you can do it in less than five minutes.

Instructions

    • 1

Connect the tilt trailer to the tow hitch on your vehicle. Lock the trailer to the hitch according to the instructions for that specific tilt trailer.

    • 2

Push or ride the motorcycle to the rear of the trailer. Park the bike so that the front wheel is in the center of the trailer.

    • 3

Tilt the trailer bed so it touches the ground. Lift the front tire onto the trailer. Stand on one side of the frame and have your helper stand on the opposite side. Lift at the same time to get the front tire onto the trailer.

    • 4

Push the bike forward until the rear tire is at the rear of the trailer. Lift the bike's rear tire onto the trailer with the help of your assistant.

Tips & Warnings

  • Connecting the trailer to the tow vehicle first will keep the trailer from moving and tilting while you load the bike.

  • Be sure to secure your motorcycle to the trailer before towing it.
