How to Set LimeWire as an Exception in McAfee

McAfee Personal Firewall is a network security program that comes bundled with McAfee's SecurityCenter product. Firewall software helps keep your computer safe from network threats like viruses. Unfortunately, the firewall can also prevent intentionally installed programs from functioning properly.

LimeWire is a program that people install to transfer files over the Internet. Although the program can be useful for file sharing, some files on the LimeWire network are infected with malware. Because of this threat, McAfee Personal Firewall blocks LimeWire from working properly. To restore functionality, you must add the ports LimeWire uses to transfer files to the firewall's exceptions list.

    • 1

      Open LimeWire.

    • 2

Double-click the red "M" next to the clock on your taskbar. This will open McAfee SecurityCenter.
