How to Become a Fast Typist
Fast typing skills are critical to most of today's jobs, from administrative assistants and accountants to technology support specialists. Increase your typing speed and efficiency by taking classes at a local college or develop your skills at home by using free online typing lessons. 1
Log on to a speed-typing website such as Keybr or Typing Web (see Resources) and complete their introductory lesson to determine your initial typing speed. Write down your initial speed so you have a starting point of how your speed will increase over the next few lessons.
-
2
Play the next few lessons, which will help you learn the home keys and numbers and eventually teach you sentences and phrases. Repeat these games and lessons until you think you've mastered them.

3
Tape an 8-by-11-inch piece of paper to the top of your keyboard horizontally so the paper rests over your hands and keyboard. Complete the lessons from start to finish with the paper over your hands. This strategy will teach you to type without looking at the keyboard and your speed will increase with practice.
