How to Reinstall System Preferences
If you have accidentally uninstalled "System Preferences" on your Mac's OS X, you will not be able to amend any settings You cannot reinstall System Preferences, or any other pre-installed Mac applications, without using additional software. Pacifist is the most widely used program of its type for reinstalling deleted packages from the Mac OS X installation disc. This saves you from having to completely reinstall your operating system to regain System Preferences control. Pacifist is a shareware application and costs $20 - as of November 2010.

Download and install "Pacifist."

Click "Applications," then double-click "Pacifist."

Insert your Mac OS X installation disc into your disc rive.

Expand the "Contents of" the following archives: "OSInstall... > EssentialSystemSoftware > EssentialSystemSoftwareGroup > Essentials."

Select "System Preferences.app" and click "Install." The app will now reinstall to your computer. Restart your computer when prompted.
