How to Get Rid of a Burning Tongue
Sometimes, while eating food or drinking beverages, you may not realize how hot the food or drink is and proceed to chew or sip. Usually, the result of this is a burn injury to your tongue. This can be very frustrating and painful. Healing this injury comes through time and by avoiding certain foods that can slow down the healing process. Ice will provide immediate relief. Use ice to give relief to your burned tongue in addition to reducing the swelling. Take an ice cube or ice chips, place them in your mouth and suck until the pain goes away. Do this as often as you need. You can also rub an ice cube directly on your tongue for quick, immediate relief.

Eating peppers could exacerbate the injury. Avoid eating foods that are rich in spices, acids or foods that are rough in texture. Eating these types of foods can exacerbate the injury. Examples of these foods are peppers, cereal, potato chips, coffee, orange juice and tomato products. Avoiding these foods will allow the burned tongue to heal quicker.

Throat spray will numb the pain. Apply throat spray (for sore throats) onto your burned tongue. Throat spray contains anesthetic properties, which will reduce the pain and swelling in the tongue by numbing the burned area.
