How to Reset the Garage Opener
Garage door openers (the hand-held transmitters) used to have small switches that needed to be manually set to match the switches in the opener itself. However, the days of manual switch-settings are long gone. Today's garage door openers are designed to "learn" the code that is set into the opening mechanism at the factory. No two garage door openers have the same factory-set code. Codes can be reset, when necessary, by the homeowner. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Locate the labeled "Learn" and "Smart" buttons on your hand-held garage door transmitter. Press and hold both buttons down for at least 60 seconds, or until a red light on the transmitter flashes. This erases all codes, giving you a completely blank transmitter. For some models, the car's engine must be running for this to work.

2
Press and hold down the "Learn" button for at least 60 seconds or until the transmitter's red light blinks once again. The transmitter has now acquired ("learned") the machine's code and should be ready to open and close your garage door. With some models, the car's engine must be running for the transmitter to be reset.

3
Press the "Open" button (this may be marked differently on some models) and confirm that the garage door responds to the transmitter and opens (or closes, as the case may be).
-
4
Repeat steps 1 through 3, if necessary (if the garage door doesn't respond to the newly encoded transmitter).
