Compare Brick & Cedar Siding

Once you have your siding options narrowed down to either brick or cedar siding, you now need to compare the differences between the two to make an informed decision.

1. Look at the difference between brick and cedar siding. This should be done in person not on-line, so that you can see subtle differences. Brick can come in a variety of textures and colors, although a red or maroon color is most common. Cedar is a vibrant, yellowish wood that has its own unique texture.

2. Research price differences between brick and cedar siding. Generally, brick costs twice as much per square foot as cedar.

3. Determine the maintenance requirements for brick and cedar siding. Brick is low-maintenance but does require annual washing with a hose. Cedar siding needs to be power-washed every year and could need repainted or resealed every four to ten years.

4. Research the longevity of cedar and brick siding. Generally, loose bricks will need to be replaced every 25 years, while cedar siding can last 30 years or more, with proper maintenance.
