How to Remove Scotch Double Sided Tape

Scotch Permanent Double Sided Tape is not intended to be applied temporarily and can be very difficult to remove. Parent company 3M does provide a few different suggestions to try for double-sided tape removal. With a little trial and error, you may be able to find a method that works in your situation.

Things You'll Need

• Soap
• Hobby knife
• Hair dryer
• Rubbing alcohol
• Sponge
• Paper towels

Instructions

1. Scrape the double-sided tape with a hobby knife to loosen it. Use the hobby knife to pry it up around the edges as well.

2. Apply a drop of liquid soap to a sponge soaked in warm water and moisten the tape.

3. Scrape off what you can of the double-sided tape with the hobby knife.

4. Heat the remainder of the double-sided tape with a hair dryer on a low, warm setting.

5. Scrape off the rest of the double-sided tape with the hobby knife. Maintain the soaping-warming-scraping process until all that remains is adhesive residue.

6. Pat the area dry with a paper towel. Apply rubbing alcohol to a clean paper towel and use the alcohol to dissolve the remaining adhesive residue.
