How to Operate a 4-Inch Grinding Wheel
A 4-inch grinding wheel (more commonly referred to as an angle grinder) is a hand-held power tool with many uses. These tools allow for various types of grinding wheels to be attached depending on what the user is cutting (such as a metal grinding disc or a diamond blade for ceramic cutting). Flooring installers often use them for cutting pieces of tile that can't be cut with a wet saw. Woodworkers often use a sanding wheel on their projects. Does this Spark an idea?

Put on safety glasses for eye protection. Make sure the angle grinder is unplugged. Select the appropriate grinding wheel for your project. If you're unsure, speak to someone at a home improvement store or carefully read what each wheel is for before buying it; do not exceed the recommended wheel diameter. Securely attach the wheel according to manufacturer's directions in your owner's manual.

Hold the grinding wheel away from you. Turn the tool on to ensure that the wheel is attached the way it should be and that nothing is loose. Allow the tool to work up to full speed before using it to grind, cut or sand.

Remove the grinding wheel from the item you are working on, making sure not to cut the cord with the wheel. Hold the engaged grinding wheel away from your body and turn the switch to the "Off" position. Allow the wheel to completely stop spinning. Unplug the grinding tool and set it somewhere where it's out of the way of people who may be walking through the area.
