How to Install a Track Spike

How to Install a Track Spike thumbnail
Track and field athletes routinely wear a set of spikes.

Track spikes are athletic shoes with spikes screwed into the bottom. They are used by athletes at track and field meets or practice sessions for increased traction while competing in events that involve running, jumping or throwing. Track shoes typically come with spikes already inserted, but the installation process is quite simple if they do not.

Instructions

    • 1

Pick up the track spike by its head, not its threads.

    • 2

Insert the thread of the spike onto one of the receptacles located on the bottom of your track shoe.

    • 3

Rotate the track spike clockwise onto the receptacle using your fingers until the spike no longer can be rotated.

    • 4

Tighten the spike with the wrench while aligning it to the base. Keep rotating until the spike tightens securely into place. Repeat with all other spikes.
