Upgrade your system to Bluetooth.

OnStar Corporation, a subsidiary of General Motors, provides in-vehicle security, hands-free calling, subscription-based communications, remote diagnostics systems and turn-by-turn navigation throughout the United States, China and Canada. OnStar is available on vehicles manufactured by General Motors and Saab Automobile. Bluetooth is a wireless technology used primarily for exchanging data over short distances from fixed or mobile devices. The process of converting an OnStar system to Bluetooth does not take much effort if an owner has a Bluetooth and a Bluetooth-enabled automobile.

Instructions

    • 1

Look in the vehicle's instruction manual to find its version of OnStar. Alternatively, the vehicle's owner can call OnStar directly to find out the specified information (see Resources).

    • 2

Call OnStar and ask to speak with a customer service agent about upgrading the car's OnStar system to use Bluetooth. Since this type of task requires the use of a General Motors technician, OnStar can also provide the location of the nearest GM dealership. The upgrade process involves downloading specific software to the car's computer system.

    • 3

Call OnStar again, once the software has been successfully downloaded. Then the agent can verify and activate the Bluetooth upgrade in the vehicle.
