How to Set Up IRS Payments

Failure to pay your taxes on time can result in an Internal Revenue Service levy or a tax lien against your assets. For that reason, it is important to work with the IRS to clear up any past due taxes. If you are able to pay your tax balance in full within the next 120 days, all you have to do is contact the IRS and make a verbal arrangement over the phone. If it is going to take longer than 120 days to pay off your balance, you can arrange to pay in monthly installments. The IRS allows monthly installments to extend for 60 months.

If it is longer than two weeks, you can always contact the IRS at 800-829-1040 to check the status of your request.
