How to Handle Hazmat Training

Hazmat training prepares employees for hazardous materials management. It provides employees with methods for determining how on-site waste should be disposed. Hazmat training should be repeated at regular intervals to maintain awareness of hazardous materials in the workplace. Hazmat training typically provides hands-on experiential training that provides employees with a working knowledge of respiratory protection and the use of different types of equipment. Some Hazmat training can be done online if your company sets it up.

Instructions

1. Take hazardous materials transportation training provided through your company if you regularly transport hazardous materials and wastes. Take a training refresher every three years if you remain in the same job.

2. Take hazardous waste management training if you are involved in the management of hazardous wastes. Hire hazardous waste professionals to provide the training and to evaluate the conditions at your work place.

3. Set up emergency plans for exiting your work facility in the case of an emergency. Use the U.S. Department of Labor Evacuation eTool to establish an emergency action plan.
