How to Pop Popcorn in a Wok
Pre-bagged microwave popcorn is quick, convenient and neat, but many brands contain harmful fats and artificial flavors or colors. Besides, popping popcorn in the microwave isn't as dramatic as doing it over the stove. Popping popcorn in a wok requires more care and supervision, but overall, wok popcorn is a simple recipe you can try. The kids will probably enjoy helping you out with this one. Things You'll Need
- Wok with lid
- 3 Tbsp. canola, peanut or grape seed oil
- 1/3 c. popcorn kernels
- Large bowl
- Butter to taste
- Salt to taste
- Grated cheese and other spices to taste

Heat the oil in your wok over medium heat.

Put a few popcorn kernels into the wok and cover it.

Listen for the kernels to pop. When they do, add the rest of the kernels in a single layer at the bottom of the wok.

Cover the wok and remove it from the heat, but leave the heat on.

Count 30 seconds, then return the wok to the heat. The popcorn should begin popping.

Shake the wok when the popping starts by moving it back and forth over the heat. Place the lid so that it is slightly ajar, to release the steam.

Remove the wok from heat when the popping slows down to several seconds between pops.

Transfer your popcorn immediately to a large bowl.

Melt the butter in the same wok, if you are using butter.

Add the butter and other seasonings to your popcorn. For a different taste, you can add cayenne pepper, grated cheese, sugar, curry or any other spices you like.
