How to Speed Up Your FiOS Connection
FiOS Internet is a service provided by Verizon. It is a fiber-optic network with a maximum upload speed of 25 Mbps and a maximum download speed of 50 Mbps. The speed varies depending on many factors, including how many other people are using the service in your area, how many other people are using your Wi-Fi signal, your computer and the website you are visiting. If you are experiencing slow speeds, there are several ways that you can increase them.

Use the Speed Optimizer tool provided by Verizon to optimize your speed. It is a wizard that will help you figure out if your MTU and TCP/IP settings are correctly set for the best performance. The wizard can be found on the Verizon website.

Perform a virus, spyware and adware check on your computer. Remove these programs immediately because they can slow down your FiOS speed or even damage your computer.

Stop watching Video on Demand. The FiOS Internet service and the VOD service have to share your home's fiber-optic connection. When they are used together, the Internet will be slower.

Free space on your computer's hard drive. You can perform this function by going to your computer's "Start" menu, selecting "Control Panel", then "Performance and maintenance," and then selecting "Free up space on your hard drive." This will open up a wizard that will free up space on your hard drive with basic maintenance like deleting downloads and temporary files.

Use the Internet during off-peak times when the most people are online. For example, many people check the news and email when they get home from work while waiting for dinner to cook. Instead of using the Internet then, wait until it gets later in the evening when FiOS may not be so congested.
