How to Enable Recording of Streaming Audio in Windows Vista

When you are listening to streaming audio such as from a podcast or online video website, then you may want to record the audio. This is useful if you want to listen again at a later date or add the audio to your iPod or other multimedia device. You do not need any additional software to enable streaming audio recording in Windows Vista. You change a sound option and then use the inbuilt "Sound Recorder."

Instructions

    • 1

Right-click the speaker icon in your system tray. Click "Properties." Click "Properties" again in the new window.

    • 2

Click "Recording." Right-click the window's background and click "Show Disabled Devices." Right-click "Wave Out Mix" (sometimes called "Stereo Out" or similar) and click "Enable."

    • 3

Click "Set Default," then "Apply," then "OK."

    • 4

Click "Start," type "sound recorder" and click the program link.

    • 5

Open your streaming audio application. Switch to Sound Recorder, click "Record." Switch back to your streaming audio and click "Play." Click "Stop Recording" in Sound Recorder when it has finished.
