How to Make Seed Packets for a Funeral

A funeral is sad, but it makes loved ones reflect on memories of a departed loved one's life. People give bookmarks, memorial cards or seed packets at some funerals as memorials of a loved one. Handing out packets of forget-me-not seeds gives a person a chance to remember a loved one when the garden blooms. The seeds can be planted in a garden, flower box or flower pots. Watching the seed grow into a plant is a loving reminder of the past loved one's life. Making seed packets for a funeral is easy for anyone, and only requires a little bit of time and energy.

Instructions

    • 1

Download this Microsoft Word seed packet template from this web site: http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/templates/seed-packet-TC010266844.aspx. After the website opens, click "Download." If another page appears, click "Download" at the bottom of the left-hand corner of the screen. A window pops up giving you an option of saving the file. Select the folder where you want the template saved and click "Save."

    • 2

Go to the folder, and open the template by double-clicking on it. It automatically opens into a Word document.

    • 3

Double-click on one of the words in the "Your Main Text Here" section. Replace the words with "In loving memory" and click "Enter." Type the deceased person's name, birth date and date of death. Click "OK."

    • 4

Click on the "Click here to add additional text or photos." A box appears. Click "Insert" from the menu bar at the top of the page. Move the cursor over the word "Picture." Select the image you want to use. Click "OK." If you don't have a picture, scan an image by placing the picture face down on the scanner's glass plate. Instead of choosing "Picture," select "Scanner." Follow on-screen prompts for operating your scanner. After the picture scans, the picture is automatically inserted in a box on the seed packet template.

    • 5

Double-click the words "Place seed instructions here." Replace the words with the "Forget-Me-Not Seeds" and the instructions from the original seed package explaining how the seeds are planted.

    • 6

Select "Print" from the menu bar and type in the desired amount of copies. Click "Enter" on the keyboard and print.

    • 7

Cut out the outer perimeter of the envelope. Lay the envelope on a flat surface with the image facing down, and the top of the image facing away from you.

    • 8

Fold all of the flaps up and in toward the side of the paper that is facing up. Crease the folds. Make sure the three skinny flaps are on top of the large flap.

    • 9

Put a thin line of glue on the bottom and side of the skinny flap. Glue them under the large flap. Let it dry for 15 minutes.

    • 10

Place 10 to 15 seeds in the envelope, and put a thin line of glue on the bottom of the top flap. Press the top flap onto the large flap and seal the envelope. Repeat with remaining envelopes.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can use size C6 envelopes and print the seed name and planting instructions right on the envelopes instead of creating envelopes from scratch if you are low on time. Store the completed envelopes in a cool dark dry place. You can add the deceased person's favorite poem or beloved memory to the envelope.
