How to Reset a Kryptonite Lock

by Cindy Paterson

Kryptonite Lock Company makes locks and anti-theft devices for bicycles, two-wheeled vehicles for snow sports and other portable riding devices. Many of the locks use a combination that you can program yourself. You reset the combination once you get the lock home. This makes it easier for you to remember the lock's combination. Resetting the combination requires no special tools or prior knowledge of locks.

Step 1

Familiarize yourself with the parts of the Kryptonite model of your lock. Find the movable numbers on the front of the lock.

Step 2

Move each digit so that the number 0 appears in the little window in front of each number dial. When you finish it should read "0000."

Step 3

Find the cable button, which is usually located in the middle right-hand side of the front of the lock as you are holding it. Press in the button to retract the cable into the body of the lock.

Step 4

Straighten a paperclip or find something equally small and insert it into the reset button, which is located on the upper-left side of the lock. At the same time, push down on the cable head until it cannot go in any farther.

Step 5

Use the guide arrows located on either side of the number dials and choose a combination that you will remember. Push in the cable button and pull out the cable head just a couple of inches. Your lock should be personalized now with your own code.
