We all worry about flaws in our appearance. Unsightly back fat is one of the things that bother many of us. Nothing is worse than when your shirt gets stuck in your back fat, leaving you with the embarrassing task of reaching back to straighten it out. Many of us have tried diet and exercise to eliminate the problem, only to find that the back fat won't disappear. It's almost as though nothing works. Relax! There are ways to hide back fat that will leave you feeling confident and beautiful.

Wear clothes that fit. While it may seem that baggy, oversized clothes will hide back fat, this is simply untrue. Oversized clothing gives a frumpy, unkempt appearance and will only make you look larger. Wearing clothing that is properly fitted gives the appearance of clean, feminine lines. Emphasizing the curves of your body will give you an overall thinner appearance. For classic pieces such as blazers and white dress shirts, consider tailoring for the best look.

Dress in layers. This does not mean wear an enormous oversized sweater. Dressing in layers hides back fat because the outer layer will lie flat against the first layer of clothing whereas a single layer is likely to cling to your skin. Wear a fitted buttoned shirt on top of a simple T-shirt or blouse. Leave the shirt unbuttoned and allow the fabric to fall away from the body. This allows ample freedom of movement. Other layering options include fitted cardigans, blazers and bolero jackets.

Buy a bra that hides back fat. There are many undergarments on the market that work well to hide body flaws. When buying bras, always remember to buy the correct size. Plenty of stores have staff members to measure you if you are unsure of your size. Spanx makes a great bra made of nylon stretch fabric for hiding back fat beautifully. These bras can get pricey, but the benefits make the investment well worth it.

Tip

  • When buying clothing that you plan to have tailored, be sure to buy a size up to ensure that there is enough fabric for the tailor to work with. Removing fabric is easy, but adding fabric is not.

Tip

  • While these are great ways to hide back fat, they are in no way a substitute for healthy weight management. Remember to eat a healthy balanced diet and get plenty of exercise for optimum health.
