How to Replace the Antenna on a 1995 Camry

The 1995 Toyota Camry features a power antenna that automatically moves up and down whenever the radio is turned on or off. The antenna also automatically moves whenever the car's power is turned off while the radio is still on. The power antenna normally lasts for a long period of time, but this part can wear out eventually. Replacing the antenna is a relatively quick task that should only take up to 30 minutes to complete.

Things You'll Need

• Needle-nose pliers
• Ratchet and socket set

Instructions

1. Use a set of needle-nose pliers to unscrew the antenna's exterior retaining nut. Remove the plastic grommet at the base of the antenna.

2. Open the trunk and remove the carpeting on the right-hand side. Use a ratchet and socket to remove the two retaining nuts holding the antenna assembly. Pull the antenna assembly away from the mounting area.

3. Disconnect the blue wire harness at the top of the assembly by hand and remove the drain tube from the floor near the jack. Disconnect the black wire from the base of the antenna assembly and remove the antenna assembly from the trunk area.

4. Connect the black wire to the new antenna assembly. Connect the blue wire harness to the top of the assembly and move the antenna into the mounting area, making sure that the top of the antenna can go through the hole at the top of the right rear fender.

5. Reattach the antenna assembly to the mounting bracket with the two retaining nuts. Tighten the nuts with a ratchet and socket. Reconnect the drain tube.

6. Fit the plastic grommet over the antenna's fender base, using the needle-nose pliers to tuck it back into place. Reattach the retaining nut over the antenna and tighten it with the needle-nose pliers.
