How to Play NES Games on a Nintendo DS

Keeping the old traditions alive, Nintendo opted to use cartridges to store games for the Nintendo DS, DS Lite, DSi and DSi XL -- all of which use R4 cartridges. In the US, some companies sell blank R4 cartridges for players to store homebrew games or to backup legally-purchased games. If you have an R4 cartridge with a previously-purchased Nintendo Entertainment System game installed on it, you can play it on your Nintendo DS just like any other game.

Instructions

    • 1

Locate the game slot on your Nintendo DS. This is located behind the handheld device towards the center.

    • 2

Slide the R4 cartridge inside until it clicks.

    • 3

Press the power button on the front of the Nintendo DS.

    • 4

Press "A" to start the game.
