How to Troubleshoot an MFC 210C

The Brother MFC 210C allows users to complete a number of tasks, including sending and receiving fax transmissions, making copies, printing digital files and printing photos from memory cards. The device uses inkjet technology to produce printouts, including fax transmissions, which involves liquid ink that the print head sprays onto media as it feeds through the MFC 210C. Often when the device experiences problems, the display panel will show an error message, giving you an idea of where to start troubleshooting.

Instructions

  1. Paper Jams

    • 1

Remove the paper input tray by pulling it directly out of its slot on the front of the MFC. Pull out any stuck paper you see inside the input tray's cavity, then slide the tray back into its cavity until it locks back into place.

    • 2

Take off the MFC 210C's rear access door by pinching the tabs on either side of the door. Pull out any stuck paper you see inside, including small shreds of paper.

    • 3

Lift the MFC 210C's top cover until the support arm locks into place. Pull out any paper you could not remove from the back of the machine.

    • 4

Unplug the MFC's power cord from the electrical outlet if the stuck paper is under the print head. Once you have unplugged the power cord, slide the print head to one side and pull out the stuck paper.

    • 5

Lift up on the MFC's top cover to unlock the support arm, then slowly lower the cover to the closed position. Press the rear access door in place until both tabs snap and plug the power cord back into the electrical outlet.

    Horizontal Lines on Printouts

    • 6

Clean the MFC 210C's print heads. Turn on the device, then press the "Ink" button on the control panel.

    • 7

Use the arrow keys to select "Cleaning" from the menu list and press the "Menu/Set" button. Use the arrow keys to select either "Black" or "Color" or "All" to decide which print heads you wish to clean, then press the "Menu/Set" button.

    • 8

Wait for the MFC to clean the print heads. During this time do not turn the device off or try to process any print jobs or other tasks on the MFC.

    • 9

Repeat the cleaning process up to five times if you still see streaks in the MFC 210C's printouts. If after five cleanings the streaks continue to appear, take the device for repair.
