How to Troubleshoot a TRENDnet KVM TK-400K

The TRENDnet TK-400K KVM switch allows you to connect multiple computers to the same unit. This configuration allows more than one computer to share a single keyboard, mouse and monitor, saving precious desk space and making it easier to monitor multiple systems at the same time. Although most of the time a KVM is quite stable after it is set up, it is still a good idea to have some basic troubleshooting skills.

Instructions

1. Check for power lights on all your equipment. The TK-400K KVM does not use an AC adapter. Instead it draws its power from the PS2 port on the computer, and therefore it will only function if the PC has power.

2. Test the PS2 ports on the KVM by plugging a known good mouse and keyboard in to them. Also make sure the connections are tight, and reseat the cables if necessary.

3. Replace the monitor with one you know works if you have problems with the video display. Also check the connection on the monitor for bent pins. If one of the pins is bent, you can experience intermittent problems with the display. Use a small flat head screwdriver to bend the pin back in place, then connect it to the TK-400K.
