How to Install Body Lift Kits

How to Install Body Lift Kits thumbnail
You can install a body lift by yourself using simple tools.

You can raise the height of the body on your vehicle by installing a body lift. A body lift consists of nylon pucks that are installed between the frame of the vehicle and the body. Lifts come in a variety of sizes from 3/4-inch to 3-inch. They can be purchased online or at any off-road store. After installing a body lift, you will be able to install larger tires and rims to increase your vehicle's ground clearance.

Instructions

    • 1

Locate the body mounting points on your vehicle by looking under the vehicle. The body mount has a bolt that attaches the body to the frame. The number of body mounts will vary, depending on your vehicle.

    • 2

Spray each bolt liberally with penetrating fluid.

    • 3

Loosen and remove each bolt with a ratchet and socket.

    • 4

Place a hydraulic jack next to the vehicle. Place the jack on a block of wood so that you are able to lift the body of the vehicle.

    • 5

Lift the body enough to install nylon spacers between the factory bushings on the frame and the body, before lowering the body onto the nylon spacers.

    • 6

Install the new bolts that came with the body lift kit and tighten them with a ratchet and socket. Continue until each bolt has been installed and tightened.

    • 7

Drive the vehicle for 500 miles. Re-tighten the bolts with a ratchet and socket.

Tips & Warnings
