Items you will need

  • Car ramps

  • Crush gasket

  • Oil pan

  • 3.9 quarts of SAE 5w20

  • MANN 7500 Mile Oil Filter (ML1008) or equivalent

  • Filter wrench

  • Socket wrench

Honda began manufacturing the Fit in 2007 with a 1.5L four-cylinder engine. The drain plug and oil filter location remain unchanged. The oil filter is located at the base of the engine near the front bumper. The oil drain plug is approximately center of the engine on the bottom, and is stamped with the word "Engine Oil." Changing the oil in a Honda Fit takes about 15 minutes to do properly.

Drive the vehicle onto a pair of car ramps and engage the emergency brake.

Slide the oil pan directly beneath the oil drain plug. Loosen the plug with a socket wrench and remove it by hand. Replace the aluminum crush gasket with a new one available from any auto parts retailer. Replace the oil plug when all oil has drained out. Torque the bolt to 29 ft.-lbs. of torque, or one half-turn past snug with a socket wrench.

Loosen the filter using a filter wrench. Move the oil pan to beneath the oil filter and remove by hand. Make sure the old gasket is removed with the filter. Rub some fresh oil onto the gasket of the new filter and install onto the vehicle. Turn the filter until its snug, and then one-quarter turn further.

Raise the hood and remove the oil fill cap. Add 3.9 quarts of SAE 5w20 to the engine. Replace the cap and start the vehicle.

Monitor the drain plug and filter locations for signs of leaks. Leaks indicate the plug or filter were loose. Correct any leaks with the vehicle off, and test again. Check the dipstick to verify the oil is at the full line. Add as necessary.
