How to Winterize Roadtrek Camper Vans
Roadtrek camping vans are designed for comfort on long camping trips. Once the camping season has ended, it is important to winterize the vehicle. Temperatures below freezing can ruin the plumbing and heating systems if they are not properly winterized. It is not difficult to winterize the vehicle, but it can take several hours the first time around. The vans are fitted with sinks, water tanks and, in several models, bathrooms. All water sources and liquids that will freeze must be removed from the vehicle.

1
Drain all of the water from the holding tanks. Open all valves and allow water to completely drain from the holding tanks, sink plumbing and bathroom plumbing. Run a hose through each plumbing system to flush and rinse the pipes and tanks. Close the water system and add one gallon of pink alcohol or plumbing antifreeze. Run the water pump to push the alcohol through the system.

2
Drain the hot water tank and hot water tank heater. Remove the plug on the bottom of the heater and open the pressure relief valve to allow the water to flow out. Flush the heater with clean water and allow it to drain completely.

3
Add Stabil to the gas tank to prevent the fuel from gumming. Change the oil if it is old, and check the antifreeze levels.

4
Park the vehicle in the spot it will remain throughout the winter. Remove and store the battery to prevent corrosion. Leave the battery if you plan on driving the vehicle during the winter.
-
5
Cover the tires to prevent wear from the elements. Also cover the vehicle to prevent weather wear or store the vehicle in a garaged area.

Tips & Warnings
Start and run the vehicle if it has been idle for more than 2 months. This will allow the systems to function and it will prevent gumming in the engine.
Be sure all of the water has been removed from the vehicle. Water will freeze and cause damage to the plumbing and heating system.
