How to Replace Your Turn Signal Relay in a Jeep Grand Cherokee

by Editorial Team

Some manufacturers of automobiles have engineered their vehicles so that they accept only parts that the manufacturer makes. Jeep is one of those manufacturers. Turn signal lights are no exception. While finding the problem with your lights may be easy enough, you still have to get your parts from your dealer at high markup.

Step 1

Check the turn signals by turning on the hazard lights and walking around your Jeep Grand Cherokee, seeing if each corner light blinks. If all the lights are good, then move on to changing the flasher; otherwise change the necessary bulbs.

Step 2

Locate the fuse box on the driver's side underneath the dash. The flasher is up inside the dash, above the regular fuses. You will need to remove the lower dash panel to gain access to the flasher.

Step 3

Remove the lower dash panel and use a flashlight to locate the flasher unit. Check the relay that you have identified by feeling the outside of the casing and turning on the turn signals. You should feel a mechanical clicking inside the flasher if you have chosen the right one.

Step 4

Replace the bad flasher with the new one. Reinstall the lower dash panel and start the Grand Cherokee. Turn on the turn signals and check to see that the lights work as they should.
