GE manufactures a number of different dishwasher models to fit the needs of just about any kitchen. Despite their differences in design, GE dishwashers all work in the same way. When the door is shut, the dishwasher sprays the dishes inside with a mixture of soap and water to clean them. This water is then pumped out of the machine, and soap-free water rinses the dishes.
A GE dishwasher door seal helps to keep the dishwasher tightly closed and also hosts the controls for the machine. American Home Shield notes that this seal may need replacing if you see water leaking around your dishwasher door. A GE dishwasher door removal may be necessary for service or repair, and it requires a little bit of work. It's not terribly difficult, however, and can be accomplished by the average DIYer.

How to Remove a GE Dishwasher Door
Step 1: Disconnecting the Power
As a safety precaution, cut the power for the GE dishwasher before you start to remove the door. Either unplug the dishwasher or turn the circuit breaker switch that controls power to the dishwasher to the "off" position.
Step 2: Removing the Toe Panel
Remove the toe panel from the very bottom of the dishwasher. This panel is located next to the floor. There will be screws at either side holding it in place. Remove the screws and pull off the toe panel.
Step 3: Removing the Dishwasher
Pull the GE dishwasher out from underneath the cabinet or anything that it might be installed beneath. Pull carefully, as the dishwasher is connected to sewage, water and electricity wires and hoses.
Step 4: Removing the Kick Panel
Remove the kick panel, which is located between the toe panel and the bottom of the dishwasher door. You may need to open up the dishwasher door in order to remove the screws at the top of the panel. Pull the panel off the dishwasher.
Step 5: Removing Top and Side Panels
Remove the top and side panels of the dishwasher. How this is done depends on your GE model, but, generally, the top will slide off, and then the side panels can be removed by loosening the retention screws.
Step 6: Unhooking the Springs
Unhook the springs from the bottom of the dishwasher cabinet. Look underneath the dishwasher, on either side, to locate the springs. Pull the springs off with a pair of pliers.
Step 7: Removing the Front Panel
Remove the front panel from the door by removing the screws. Look on the underside and sides of the door for the door panel screws. These may be Torx or Phillip head screws.
Step 8: GE Dishwasher Door Removal
How to remove the GE dishwasher door off hinges depends on the model. Some GE dishwashers will use hinge pins on either side of the door. These need to be snapped out of place from the dishwasher cabinet before the door can be removed. In other models, the hinge will be held in place by screws at the bottom of the door. Loosen the screws and lift the dishwasher door off the handle.
Step 9: Disconnecting Electrical Connections
Disconnect the electrical connections from the door by pulling out the wiring sockets connecting the door to the electrical harness. Don't pull by the wires, pull by the sockets.
