How to Install Polyurethane Decorative Molding
Decorative moldings can be made out of many different materials. These materials include solid wood, MDF wood, polyurethane, and even plaster. Polyurethane is a great choice for decorative moldings because it is inexpensive, lightweight, and easy to install. Installing polyurethane decorative moldings is a simple task when you know how to get started. Things You'll Need
- Measuring tape
- Polyurethane decorative molding
- Pencil
- Miter saw
- Polyurethane adhesive
- Brad nailer
- Non-shrinking wood putty
- Sandpaper
- Paint

Measure the wall with a measuring tape to determine how long the decorative molding needs to be. Add 1/8 inch to the measurement. Transfer these measurements to the decorative polyurethane molding with a pencil.

Cut the polyurethane molding on a miter saw. When dealing with corner cuts, set the miter saw to a 45 degree angle.

Apply a bead of polyurethane adhesive along the back of the decorative molding. Set the molding in place. Have a friend hold the molding while you fasten it in place with a brad nailer.

Fit the end pieces of the decorative moldings first. When both of the end pieces are in place, install the center pieces of decorative molding.

Allow the polyurethane adhesive to dry completely.

Fill gaps and nail holes with non-shrinking wood putty. Let the putty dry. Lightly sand the molding with sandpaper. Paint as desired.
