How to Use a Fluidmaster Flapper With a Mansfield Toilet
If a Mansfield toilet uses a flush valve that employs a flapper, it is a breeze to replace the Mansfield flapper with a Fluidmaster flapper. Mansfield toilet models 392 and 395 include a flush valve with a flapper. Although Fluidmaster flappers are designed to fit most standard tanks and are also able to be installed onto flush valves that do not have mounting ears, the Mansfield flush valve overflow tube does have mounting ears. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Twist the shut-off valve clockwise all the way. This stops the water flow to the toilet. The shut-off valve is usually found on the wall behind the left side of the toilet, approximately 6 inches above the floor. Remove the tank lid and gently place the lid on a soft surface nearby, like a bed or sofa, protected with a drop cloth.

2
Flush the toilet. Continue pressing the handle down until the tank drains completely. Put on rubber gloves to protect your hands from the black streaks that are often left from handling a flapper.

3
Remove the flapper from the mounting ears on the bottom of the overflow tube. Disconnect the plastic chain from the trip lever, and dispose of the old flapper. Wipe around the drain where the flapper seats, cleaning off any debris with a soft cloth.

4
Snap the adapter ring off the back of the Fluidmaster flapper. Position the flapper over the opening in which the flapper will seat, with the frame attached to the top of the flapper aligned over the mounting ears on the bottom of the overflow tube. Push down on the frame, snapping it to the mounting ears.

5
Connect the flapper chain to the trip lever. Choose a hole in the trip lever for the chain that allows the flapper to seat fully, leaving a small amount of slack in the chain. Twist the shut-off valve counter-clockwise, allowing water to enter the tank through the fill valve. Flush the toilet and observe how the flapper raises and falls. Adjust the chain's connection to the trip lever or cut off any excess from the chain, using a pair of snips. Place the lid on the tank.
