How to Replace 1999 F-150 Shocks
The shocks on your 1999 Ford F-150 pickup should be replaced every 75,000 miles. Worn shocks will decrease the handling of your pickup. The ride quality will also suffer due to worn shocks. It is important to replace the shocks when these symptoms arise. They should always be replaced in pairs. Although there are different types of aftermarket shocks, installation is virtually the same. They can be purchased from any auto parts store and installed yourself with simple tools.
Instructions

-
1
Loosen the lug nuts on one of the tires on the truck with a tire iron wrench.
-
2
Slide a jack under the axle of the truck. Confirm that it is directly under the axle before lifting the vehicle high enough to remove the tire.
-
-
3
Remove the lug nuts from the wheel studs. Pull the tire from the axle and set it on the ground. Keep the lug nuts in a safe place for re-installation.
-
4
Locate the bolts that hold the shock to the brackets. There are two bolts, one at each end.
-
5
Remove the bolts by placing a ratchet and socket on the bolt and a wrench on the nut.
-
6
Remove the stock shock absorber from the vehicle.
-
7
Place the new shock absorber into position. Align the holes of the brackets up with the shock so that the bolt can be inserted into the hole. Place the retaining nut onto the threaded side of the bolt and tighten it with the ratchet and a socket on the bolt. A wrench may be needed to keep the nut from spinning. Install the second bolt onto the shock in the same manner.
-
8
Reinstall the tire onto the axle. Thread the lug nuts onto the wheel studs. Tighten them with the tire iron wrench.
-
9
Repeat these steps for the other remaining shocks.
