A custom Blue Screen of Death can be made for pranks or for screen savers.

A Stop Error is a blue warning screen that occurs when there is a problem running the system's operating system. It is popularly referred to as the Blue Screen of Death because when the error occurs, typically the only option is to shut down the computer. In the past, people have created their own Blue Screen of Death to use as a prank on their friends or as a humorous screen saver. Sometimes the screen is created identically to the original to make a user think their computer has crashed. Other times, the text on the screen is modified to say something humorous or witty. A Blue Screen of Death can be easily created using Microsoft Paint, which comes standard on most computers.
