How to Block Parental Controls

How to Block Parental Controls thumbnail
If you want to block the parental controls on your network, use a proxy site.

Parental controls are established on a network to protect families from accessing inappropriate or offensive Web content. This is accomplished by operating Internet filtering products such as Net Nanny. Occasionally, you may find yourself unable to visit an informative and seemingly harmless website. In this situation, it may become necessary to block the parental controls hindering your ability to access this site. To confront these browsing restrictions successfully, you can use a proxy, which is a website that bypasses any type of browsing restrictions, including parental controls.

Instructions

    • 1

Visit the proxy site you would like to use to block the parental controls that are keeping you from accessing Web content on your network (see Resources). Proxy sites are cost-free and give you the ability to browse the Internet without restrictions or censorship of any kind, plus they keep your browsing activities anonymous by hiding your IP address behind their server.

    • 2

Type the URL of the website that is being filtered by the parental controls on your network in the URL text box that will be displayed on the page of the proxy site you are using.

    • 3

Click on the tab that says "Go, "Surf," "Visit" or "Browse" depending on the proxy site you are using. This tab is generally displayed beside the text box. Once you click on the tab, the proxy will redirect you to the website that was previously being filtered by the parental controls on your network.

Tips & Warnings

  • There are a large number of proxy sites that you can use to block parental controls. Websites like Top Bits display lists of proxy sites. (See Resources.)
