How to Install the Avaya Softphone 6
Designed primarily for Windows-based PCs, the Avaya IP Softphone is a telephone client that allows its users to tap into various Avaya Communication Manager features. It can be integrated with various desktop productivity tools, including Microsoft Office Communicator and IBM Lotus Sametime Connect. Using the Avaya Softphone with the Eutectics IPP phone is very simple. Both placing and receiving a call are quite intuitive. To call someone, pick up the handset, which will bring up the Softphone, and you can dial using the phone's keypad or the keyboard on your PC. To answer a call, simply lift up the headset.

Download DirectX 8.1 (see Resources) or higher from the Microsoft website, if don't already have it on your operating system.

Install the Softphone with the help of a network administrator, because an administrator will have to perform certain office system and user configurations and enable certain IP licenses before you can even begin the installation process. Check the "Call Bar" display box under User Interface Options with your mouse.

Download the Eutectics Avaya integration software (see Resources). Plug the Eutectics IPP phone into your computer, after the download is complete, to begin its installation process. Enter "C:\Program files\eutectics\AvayaSoftphone-IPP200" as the file path and wait for a new window to come up. Follow the onscreen prompts to configure the Avaya Softphone software to use the IPP phone.

Click the "Audio" toolbar and select the "Tuning Wizard" from the menu to open the Avaya Audio Tuning Wizard. Be sure to choose the "IPP," or "USB Audio Device," under the "Select a primary playback device" drop-down menu. Select "Eutectics device ID" under the "Headset Playback and Recording devices." To set up the call alert, set the "Ringing device" to your PC's sound card.
