Things You'll Need

  • Chair covers create a beautiful addition for special events such as weddings. They also offer a cohesive design element by allowing you to decorate every chair in the same color and to add an additional splash of color with the fabric you tie around each chair. However, you probably have more than 100 chairs that you need to cover and need a quick and efficient system to begin tying your chair covers. Learn how to complete this process quickly and seamlessly.

Instructions

    • 1

Place a chair you want to cover on a flat surface. Scrunch up the chair cover so you have control over all the fabric in your hands.

    • 2

Place the chair cover over the chair. Make sure that the fabric area for the chair back goes over the chair back and that the fabric for the seat is facing the right direction. Pull the fabric down so all the chair legs are covered.

    • 3

Tuck the chair cover into the seams of the chair until all of the sides are flush. Gather each end of one of the chair cover ties in each hand. Tie the sides together and make a knot. Loop both ends like a shoe lace and tie together. Repeat for each set of ties on your chair cover. Velcro the ends together to the matching Velcro sides if the chair has Velcro attachments.

    • 4

Cut your fabric in a 6-inch-wide-by-7-foot-long segment with scissors. Place the fabric over the chair so that the inside of the chair is covered with the fabric and you have excess fabric at the back of the chair. Adjust your fabric so the two sides of excess fabric are the same length.

    • 5

Tie a knot with the excess fabric at the back of the chair. Pull on the sides of fabric so the fabric flows straight down. As an alternative, make a bow out of the excess fabric by creating two loops and tying them together at the knot. Pull on the bottoms so that they are an equal length. Add a decorative element such as flowers, a brooch, clasp or buckle to the middle of the knot or bow.

Tips & Warnings

  • Ask a group of friends to assist you with this process to complete the task more quickly.

  • Do not purchase or rent chair covers on different days or from different suppliers because the fabric may not have dye from the same dye lot and may not be an exact color match.
