How to Format Parisian Phone Numbers
When you write out phone numbers for a specific country, it's proper etiquette to format the numbers correctly. In the United States, the common format for writing a telephone number is to separate the area code, prefix and line number (four digits) with a dash and sometimes parentheses. But the format is different if you're writing a contact number for a location in Paris, France.

1
Write a plus sign first when writing a Paris phone number for someone who lives outside of Paris. This is a basic formatting rule that indicates that the number to follow is a telephone line.
-
2
Enter the country code of 33 next, which identifies the number as a line in France.

3
Type in a space after the country code, then enter the nine-digit phone number for the Paris line. The Paris city code is "1." After that, add a space and pair the rest of the numbers in twos. An example of a properly formatted Parisian phone number is +33 1 55 12 15 55.

4
Add a zero to the front of the nine-digit Paris number if you're formatting it for a local caller. Break up the number into pairs (two) separated with a space. In the example above, the local phone number format would read 01 55 12 15 55.

Tips & Warnings
If calling a Paris line from the United States, you must dial 011 before dialing the rest of the number.
Some companies add "(0)" (no quote) after a space, then the "+33," then another space before the "1" in the phone number instead of dropping it completely from the local number. For example, +33 (0) 1 55 12 15 55 . However, the caller does not have to dial the zero.
