How to Create a Church Certificate

Some churches present new members with printed certificates after they complete certain programs or perform particular achievements. It's also a useful idea to create certificates if you mentor or teach a group of children at the church and want to reward their progress. Creating a custom certificate for church attendees is a simple matter of buying certificate paper (which is commonly made of parchment paper) and typing in some key details.

Things You'll Need

  • Certificate paper (available at office supply stores)
  • Printer
  • Word-processing program

Instructions

    • 1

Load your word-processing program to start creating your church certificate. Set the page orientation to "Landscape" view before you proceed. Make sure that the size of the document is consistent with the size of your certificate paper (usually 8.5 by 11 inches). Set your margins to at least one inch around the entire document.

    • 2

Enter the full name of the church at the top center of the certificate in an attractive script font (such as Lucida Calligraphy or Old English Text). Set the font size to at least 20 points. Format the entire document so that the text appears centered.

    • 3

Go down one line and enter the title of the certificate. For example, if it's a certificate of achievement for completing a church program, type the name of that program on this line in a bold standard font (such as Arial or Times New Roman) and set the font size to about 16 points.

    • 4

Enter "This certificate is presented to" on the next line in the same font as the previous line, except in 12- to 14-point font.

    • 5

Press "Enter" twice to skip a line in order to leave space to enter the name of each recipient.

    • 6

Explain the purpose of the certificate in greater detail on the line or lines after that. For example, if the certificate recognizes completion of a church educational program, list the subject and the date on which the program was completed. Add any religious sayings or quotes here.

    • 7

Enter the date of presentation on the next line. Press "Enter" twice and hold down the underscore key on your keyboard to create a signature line for the church leader. Press "Enter" and type the printed name of the church leader.

    • 8

Adjust fonts and positioning of the elements of your certificate as needed to ensure that it fits on one page. Add the recipient's name in the designated area and print the document on your certificate paper.

Tips & Warnings

  • Insert an image of the church or a church logo to the left of the text in your word-processing program if you have room.

  • Some word-processing programs offer certificate templates that make this process even simpler; just add data related to the recipient, the date and the reason for the certificate.
