Ground cinnamon is often called for in baking recipes. The two forms do not have to be mutually exclusive as cinnamon sticks can be ground into powder form. Grinding cinnamon sticks into ground cinnamon is good for storage because cinnamon sticks will keep for twice as long as ground cinnamon.   • Hand-held grater or rasp
  • Small bowl

Instructions

      Hold the grater over the bowl.

      Rub the cinnamon stick back and forth against the grater over the part above the bowl.

      Quit rubbing the cinnamon stick when it becomes difficult to hold between your fingers since the grater is sharp and can cut your fingers. Repeat with another stick until you have the desired amount of ground cinnamon.

  • A cinnamon stick can yield up to a 1/2 tsp. of ground cinnamon.
