How to Call Korea on the Mobile

Calling Korea from the United States on your mobile phone takes a few more steps than making a domestic phone call does. To complete the call, you'll need to dial a series of numbers. The first is a standard number for calling internationally -- it is used to call to any country outside the United States. You'll then need to use the country code specific to either North Korea or South Korea. If you are unsure of your provider's international calling rates, you should check before dialing. Some carriers charge more than $3 a minute.

Instructions

1. Contact your wireless carrier using the toll-free customer service number. (Find this on a recent invoice or the carrier's website.) Make sure international dialing is enabled on your account. You may also want to inquire about the rates for calling Korea -- most providers charge a per-minute fee for international dialing.

2. Use one of the links in the Resources section to determine the area code for the city in Korea you wish to call.

3. Dial "011," then the country code -- ("82" for South Korea, "850" for North Korea) plus the area code and phone number. Press "Send" to complete the call.
